Biography

From May 2008 to date, I am an associate professor in the Department of Computer Architecture (DAC) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain. Previously, from September 2003 to September 2005, I have been a visitor professor and from September 2005 to May 2008 a tenure-track lecturer in the same department. From January 2001 to September 2003, I was granted with a pre-doctoral FI-G scholarship grant from the Goverment of Catalonia in the DAC department at UPC, extensively working in the field of optical packet switched-networks. My Ph.D. dissertation, entitled “QoS provisioning in optical packet networks for metropolitan and wide area environments” (UPC, February 2005), obtained an Excellent Cum Laude qualification. Previously, I received the M.Sc. double degree in telecommunications engineering and electrical engineering from UPC (2000) and Politecnico di Torino, Italy (2001), respectively.

I am a member of the Advanced Broadband Communications Centre (CCABA) located in UPC. I was a visitor Ph.D. student starting from January 2002 to February 2002 at the Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informatica e Sistemistica of the University of Bologna, where I worked with Prof. Franco Callegati and Dr. Walter Cerroni. Between September and November 2002, I was a visitant PhD Student at the British Telecom R+D supported by Generalitat de Catalunya grant, developing a QoS mechanism for advanced metro optical networks and computer tools for simulation and performance evaluation. I am currently involved in national and international projects. In the past, I was involved in several European Projects such as DICONET, STRONGEST, FP6-IP NOBEL and FP6-NoE project e-Photon/ONe.

Concerning my teaching activities, I am currently giving basic as well as advanced courses on Computer Networks in the Facultat d’Informatica de Barcelona (Barcelona School of Informatics) and in the Centre de la Imatge i la Tecnologia Multimèdia (Image and Multimedia Technology Centre) of UPC. In the past, I was also giving introductory courses on computer programming in the Escola Tècnica Superior D’Enginyeria de Telecomunicació de Barcelona (School of Telecommunications Engineering) of UPC.
