Since October 2016 to date, I am a tenured assistant professor (Professor Agregat) in the Department of Computer Architecture (DAC) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain. Previously, I held tenure-track lecturer (Professor Lector) and adjunct professor (Professor Ajudant) positions in the same department. In the past, I was granted with a pre-doctoral FI-G scholarship grant from the Goverment of Catalonia in the Department of Signal Theory and Communications (TSC) at UPC, extensively working in the field of GMPLS-controlled next-generation optical transport networks. My Ph.D. dissertation, entitled “Resource Management in GMPLS-Controlled Hybrid OBS/OCS Transport Networks” (UPC, June 2009), obtained an Excellent Cum Laude qualification with Doctor Europeus mention.
Regarding my research interests, I am currently focusing on the performance optimization of innovative transport network infrastructures toward the successful deployment of 5G in the years to come. My studies encompass the modeling of ultra-high capacity optical transmission systems, e.g., realizing Spatial Division Multiplexing (SDM), and the evaluation of state-of-the-art optical switching paradigms on top of them. Moreover, I am also very interested in evaluating the benefits of the clean-slate Recursive Inter-Network Architecture (RINA) as an alternative to the current TCP/IP protocol stack for the Future Internet. I have been involved in a number of European and Spanish research projects. I have participated in the European projects of the FP7 PRISTINE, COSIGN, LIGHTNESS, EULER, STRONGEST, DICONET and BONE, and in those of the FP6 NOBEL Phase II, e-Photon/ONe+ and COST Action 291. Furthermore, I have participated in the Spanish National Projects SUNSET, Red Temática Elastic Networks, ELASTIC, Red Temática FIERRO, ENGINE and RINGING.
Concerning my teaching activities, I am currently giving Programació Orientada a Objectes (i.e., Object Oriented Programming) in the Escola Tècnica Superior D’Enginyeria de Telecomunicació de Barcelona (ETSETB), the Telecommunications Engineering School of UPC in Barcelona. In the past, I was giving Metodologia i Programació Orientada a Objectes (i.e., Object Oriented Programming and Methodology) in the same school, as well as Xarxes de Computadors (i.e., Computer Networks) in the Facultat d’Informatica de Barcelona, the School of Informatics of the UPC, also located in Barcelona.
